Demonstration

We demonstrate good woodland management practices through our Model Forest Program. We contract with four locations around the New York City Watershed region to show practices that allow timber harvesting yet also protect water quality, promote wildlife habitat, and control invasive species. These model forests are open to the public (though check with each facility for specific rules of entry). Self-guided tours are possible through the aid of interpretive signs, and the Model Forests also host workshops on a variety of topics.

The Model Forest Program is a partnership between the Watershed Agricultural Council, the State University of New York – College of Environmental Science & Forestry (SUNY-ESF), and the various Model Forest hosts. For more information about each Model Forest, including contact information, please visit the Model Forest page on MyWoodlot.
