Catskill Woodnet

Catskill WoodNet and Pure Catskills Wood Products

Recognizing a need for improved marketing assistance to forest-based enterprises, Catskill WoodNet — www.catskillwoodnet.org — was founded in 2005 to allow for improved promotion and development of the wood products businesses located and serving the New York City watershed region. The mission of Catskill WoodNet is to support wood products businesses in the Catskill region by strengthening business relationships, improving the utilization of local forest resources, and promoting healthy watersheds. The website provides information on dozens of local wood and wood-related businesses — from sawmills to fine craftsmen to tool suppliers.

Catskill WoodNet
Member businesses label their products with the Pure Catskills trademark to illustrate a commitment to using watershed friendly practices, buying local and supporting a centuries old tradition of craftsmanship and care for the land in the Catskills.

Technical Assistance

Periodically, WAC hosts and attends events targeted at improving the skills and knowledge of watershed region firms. Previous workshops have focused on topics such as Using Locally Produced Framing Lumber, NHLA Hardwood Lumber Grading Short-Course, Drying Quality Lumber for Profit and Marketing Forest Products. Additional assistance is provided through distribution of the Pure Catskills Wood Products directories at key tradeshow events throughout the year including New England Woodworking Expo, Architectural Digest Home Design Show, ICFF, and regional fairs.
