LOGGER TRAINING
Logger Loggers trained in water quality protection carry out thoughtful planning and building of forest roads, trails, log landings and stream crossings which can prevent or eliminate water quality problems during timber harvests. BMP tools like portable bridges offer loggers a flexible alternative for crossing streams, while geo-textile road fabric helps stabilize roads for hauling timber.
Trained Logger Certification
The Watershed Forestry Program partners with New York Logger Training's "TLC" (Trained Logger Certification) program to help timber harvesters get the safety, First Aid and CPR courses they need. Courses are offered on a range of topics from sustainable forestry to "best management practices" for water quality. Loggers in the program are then recommended by The Watershed Forestry Program to forest landowners in the New York City watershed who may be conducting a timber harvest. Download our recently published Logger Calendar (PDF 4.3MB) or check our Forestry Calendar for this year's schedule of the classes listed below, hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Greene County.

Looking for a Few Good Roads
"The landowner wants roads for recreation that are easy to maintain."

Forest Roads located with care will protect soil and water - and last a landowner's lifetime. Apply for our cost-shares to help offset the expenses of planning and building forest roads. We have incentives for planning and layout and for BMP installations like water bars, culverts and gravel that reduce sediment flow into nearby streams.
