Farmer Flood Relief Fund
To help farmers devastated by Hurricane Irene and the subsequent flooding in Summer 2011, we collaborated with several groups, individuals and nonprofits to hold regional fundraisers to benefit our farmers-in-need. As of January 20, 2012, this local grassroots efforts raised over $35,000 toward farmer flood relief. In the first round of awards, three farmers received $5,000 each to cover expenses incurred to infrastructure, lost product and revenue -- costs that weren't covered by FEMA, flood or crop insurance. In January 2012, a second rounds of awards will allocate the remaining funds to meet the financial needs of another seven farmers.
Thanks to all of you who chipped in to help our neighbor farmers in this time of crisis. Thank you for your silent auction donations, cash donations and gifts of support. Your generosity will help over a dozen of the region's hardest hit food producers bridge a long winter. Your faith will help them restore, rebuild and replant in 2012. Thank you to the many individuals, too many to list here, for your support and donations. And to the groups of fundraisers who banded together to raise money between September and December 2011, we thank you.
